Tonight: Sin La Luna at First Night Austin!

Looking for something awesome to do tonight before you hit the parties? Head downtown and check out First Night, Austin's third annual New Year's Eve art festival. From 3 to 6 pm there will be a bunch of family-friendly activities, including puppets, robots, games, and more. At 6pm, the Grand Procession starts down Congress Avenue towards the South First Street bridge, with a bunch of amazing dancers, drummers, floats, and the Caveman Collective, who will be showing us a glimpse of the future. And from 8pm onward, there will be fireworks to watch and numerous art installations to explore.

That's where we come in. We'll be presenting an excerpt from Sin La Luna, our upcoming short film that blends animation with traditional illustration to tell a unique story of southwestern myth and horror. Lost in the Chihuahuan desert, amongst the creosote and cacti, lies a small town that's forgetting its past. But even out here, amidst the hard soil and bitter springs, some roots run deep. And one night, while a thousand tiny eyes keep watch, one man is going to uncover just how deep those roots go...

We'll be at the HBMG Theater, under the south side of the S. First Street Bridge -- just east of Auditorium Shores -- from 9 p.m. to midnight on December 31st. Here's a map of First Night and nearby parking locations. We'll be at location 2, the HBMG Theater Under the Bridge. Additional details (weather, restrooms, etc.) can be found here.

There'll be a lot of other great stuff at the HBMG Theater, too, starting at 8pm:

”Transformations” - Cambiare Productions

Transformations is a multi-disciplinary, multi-media, designer driven collaboration between women artists. Largely inspired by Anne Sexton’s Transformations, each piece centers around one of her poems and uses her words to look at the idealized roles women play in our fairy tales, folklore, media, and oral history. The resulting series of short performance pieces is a diverse celebration and examination of how our society views us as women and how we perceive ourselves. Transformations is conceived and directed by Megan Reilly.

”Confinement” - David de Lara

For “First Night Austin 2008” David de Lara is creating a mixed and multi-media based art instillation The piece is based around the idea of confinement, and will use traditional media like acrylic and oil paints, and combine them with an actress’ performance on video.

Drop on by and check it out! I hope to see you there.
